New Wovenhand! OUT NOW!

In almost every documented encounter with the music of Wovenhand, what is described is an experience so visceral and so universally disorienting, that one has to take note. From the first measures of music, the taste of desert earth is on the lips; neck-hairs snap to attention as strange and unfamiliar sounds whisper just underneath the surge of guitar and the rumble of bass; clouds loom on the horizon promising either the balm of rain or the threat of judgment — it could be either. The music of Wovenhand is its own iconography, its own world, its own universe.

Click here to read, hear, and ORDER...

"Music like this is rare. It addresses us kindly, directly, without pretense or irony. It is not cool or hip or self-contained. It is unabashedly vulnerable, open to encounter. It's not often anymore that you hear the music of young people. Not just young people, but anyone who is still engaged in becoming who they are. Ortolan includes us in the family, encouraging us to grow along with them..." -Dan Zimmerman

Ben + Vesper = LUV

On February 9th, only six days from Valentine's Day, LuvInIdleness, the latest EP from Ben + Vesper, will be released. What could be more romantic? But you don't even have to wait that long, because pre-orders are effective now! Order right away and you can have it on your mailbox on February 9th, which will most assurdely be a beautiful day.

This record began in Ben + Vesper’s kitchen so many years ago over three bowls of vegetarian chili, a pan of cornbread, filtered water, and an agreeable dinner guest by the name of Sufjan Stevens. The occasion was an invitation to play at a house-concert series that Ben + Vesper hosted in their living room (which resulted in Sufjan’s first live show ever). This unlikely start to Sufjan’s performing career also resulted in an ongoing friendship and musical dialogue that has recently inspired Ben + Vesper to dish out another dollop of ambrosial pop songs titled LuvInIdleness. Here is the new EP that finally brought the dinner party full circle as Sufjan, in turn, invited the Jersey-based couple across state lines, harrowing train connections and two great rivers to record 16 minutes of listening glee.

Take a listen to the title track, and then do yourself and your honey a favor for Valentine's Day and pick up a copy.

Also, Ben + Vesper have a tour coming up (with Ortolan and Danielson)! Just scroll down to the post below to get the full skinny.
